The problem

An agricultural map needs to do more than display imagery. It needs to make vegetation indices readable and let people work with application rates in the context of a field.

Constraints

I worked within an existing platform with organization-scoped layers and permissions. The editor had to preserve the original Pix4D grid and metadata, changing only application rates.

My role

I built the index visualization, refined the layer panels and implemented the prescription editor in React. I also built the API, data model and migration for saved dosage versions; the underlying platform is a team effort.

Key decisions

  • Keep the color scale separate from the histogram filter, so filtering hides values without changing what their colors mean.
  • Share a display model between the map and panel so both use the same zones and colors.
  • Store dosage versions separately from the original file, with role-based editing and download permissions.

The shipped system

The interface connects the map, filters, zones and a dosage editor for each grid level. Named versions retain their units, persist in PostgreSQL and can be downloaded as a copy of the original file with the edited rates.
